(Yicai Global) Jan.12 -- China's automotive giant Guangzhou Automobile Group Co. Automotive Engineering Institute and US automotive cockpit electronics heavyweight Visteon Corporation inked a cooperation agreement at the International Consumer Electronics Show, better known as CES, 2018 to develop automatic drive and intelligent network technologies.

Sachin Lawande, president and CEO of Visteon, and Wang Qiujing, president of GAC Engineering, signed the agreement at Visteon's exhibit at CES 2018 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Institute under the Chinese company will jointly develop solutions for self-driving using Visteon Corporation's control technology, DriveCore, which debuted in the CES 2018 and is planned to enter the market with the finished auto supporting product in 2020, the business daily Securities Times reported.

"We are very pleased to be embarking on this collaboration with Visteon. Visteon's technology innovation and strong presence in China is well-aligned with our vision for automotive technology development. We believe that this cooperation with Visteon will play an important role in promoting the rapid development of autonomous driving and cockpit electronics systems," Wang Qiujing said.

Visteon's Lawande said, "We are very pleased to engage with GAC, one of the leading vehicle manufacturers in China, on a broad range of autonomous driving and cockpit electronics technology developments. GAC is a fast-growing, highly valued Chinese automobile company with a solid foundation of quality and a proven record of innovation. Its development efforts in intelligent and automated vehicles are fully aligned with those of Visteon, which has a major presence in China."

Both sides will cooperate in such areas as drive information, head-up display, multi-function information display, SmartCore domain controller and other cockpit electronic components, with a view to jointly advancing development of intelligent driving industry, the report added without mentioning the value of the deal.
