(Yicai Global) Oct. 17 -- Chinese mainland stock markets opened slightly higher this morning as investors remained cautious amid a volatile market.

The Shanghai Composite Index opened 0.09 of a percent up at 2,979.99, while the Shenzhen Component Index started 0.16 percent stronger at 9,657.09. The ChiNext Price Index, which tracks growth enterprises listed in Shenzhen, began the day 0.09 percent higher at 1,657.93.
