(Yicai Global) Aug. 23 -- China's mainland shares were trading within a wide range through the day, still closing higher, and the best-performing ones were Shanghai's large caps.
The Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.49 percent to 2,897.43 by the close. The Shenzhen Component Index gained 0.13 percent to 9,362.55. The ChiNext Price Index, which tracks growth enterprises listed in Shenzhen, inched up 0.13 percent to 1,615.56.
Most of the stocks on the once red-hot Star Market closed lower. The 28 shares climbed 171 percent on average in the first month since the Nasdaq-style tech board started trading, according to the Shanghai Stock Exchange.
