Chinese Skincare Firm Gmee Bags Millions of USD in Pre-A Fundraiser Chinese Skincare Firm Gmee Bags Millions of USD in Pre-A Fundraiser

(Yicai) Jan. 12 -- Gmee Technology, a Chinese skincare company developing well in the Southeast Asian market, has secured tens of millions of Chinese yuan, equivalent to millions of US dollars, in a pre-A financing round.

The fundraiser was led by AC Ventures, a USD investment fund focused on startups in Indonesia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, according to corporate data platform Tianyancha. Venture capital Lightspeed China Partners, Gmee’s shareholder, also participated.

Gmee will mainly use the proceeds for product research and development, global supply chain layout, and the introduction of key talent.

Founded in 2020, Gmee focuses on R&D, production, and sale of skincare products, specializing in goods with whitening and exfoliating efficacy.

Gmee’s skincare brand Gmeelan has 13 stores on ByteDance’s TikTok and has shops on other platforms, including e-commerce giant Shopee and Alibaba Group’s Lazada Group to sell products in Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Singapore. It has a robust e-commerce business performance via livestreaming.

Gmeelan’s revenue totaled more than CNY17 million (USD2.4 million) on TikTok since its debut three months ago. The brand focuses on exfoliating and whitening efficacy, with a relatively small product range, so it faces challenges in meeting diversified consumer demand, according to an analyst.
