(Yicai Global) Sept. 1 -- Phone retailers in China are bumping up prices of Kirin-powered handsets made by Huawei Technologiesas the company will lose access to its mostadvanced chipsetsfrom Sept. 15 due to US tech sanctions.

One seller at the Huaqiangbei electronics market in Shenzhen told the National Business Daily that phones equipped with Kirin chips are now about CNY300 (USD44) more expensive, and the price for Huawei Mate 30 RS Porsche Design has risen by as much as CNY3,000 (USD440). Some resellers have started hoarding the phones.

Authorized Huawei retailers have kept to the official pricing but some models and colors of phones with Kirin chips are out of stock, sales staff told the same news source.

“When there is demand and supply is insufficient, prices will naturally rise,” said a veteran general manager of a mobile phone store.

“Huawei’s supply is still normal,” said an insider at the phone maker. “We can’t control the scalpers.”

Huawei Chief Executive Richard Yu said early last month that the Huawei Mate 40, a handset scheduled for release this fall, is likely to be the last equipped with the firm’s high-end Kirin 9000 chipset as the Shenzhen-based telecoms giant will have no access to the component from Sept. 15.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing, the world’s biggest contract chipmaker, used to produce them for Huawei. It confirmed in July that it would stop in order to comply with US export restrictions.
