(Yicai Global) Dec. 19 – China has developed a solar battery which has superior bending-proof performance and can be widely used in wearable devices. The Institute of Chemistry under Chinese Academy of Sciences has accomplished the remarkable achievement, which could lead to a new generation of wearable devices.
A research team of the Institution made a stand through nanotechnology, which can serve as the buffer layer, therefore, significantly increasing the photoelectric conversion efficiency and mechanical stability of the solar battery, and offering a new method for researching a new generation of wearable devices, state-run Xinhua News Agency reported yesterday.
Wearable devices are an emerging trend in electronic products for the future. Battery is an important component of such devices. However, traditional batteries have obvious limitation on the outdoor feasibility, large-area fitness and security of wearable devices.
The output of the wearable devices market will reach 250 million sets in 2021, show data released by International Data Corporation (IDC), a market intelligence firm. However, smart watches featured by Apple Watch will occupy 60 percent of the market share, while smart clothing holds less than 10 percent.
