(Yicai Global) Nov. 29 -- A research institute affiliated with the main contractor on China's space program has developed and built the country's first ground-penetrating radar augmented by artificial intelligence.
Named Eagle Eye-A, the three-dimensional imaging radar can scan up to a depth of six meters underground to spot city pipelines, including for oil and gas, as well as detect potentially dangerous loose soil or flammable gases under roads, state-owned Xinhua News Agency reported yesterday. It has a 90 percent accuracy rate.
Equipped with both China's Beidou satellite navigation system and the US' Global Positioning System, it was created by a research institute under state-owned high-tech firm China Aerospace Science and Industry.
Apart from detecting abnormal phenomena below ground, the system can generate real-time analysis, reducing the need for human input and enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of imaging, Xinhua reported, citing Jiao Xiaoliang, director of the institute's science and technology committee.
