(Yicai Global) Jan. 8 -- Stock markets on the Chinese mainland rebounded slightly in the morning session after the United States-Iran conflict hit them hard at this morning's open.

The Shanghai Composite Index closed for lunch down 0.57 percent at 3,087.13 , while the Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.07 percent lower at 10,821.74. The ChiNext Price Index, which tracks growth enterprises listed in Shenzhen, was down 0.38 percent at 1,885.94.

The rough start to the day came after Iran launched ballistic missiles at bases housing American troops in Iraq as retaliation to a US drone strike killing an Iranian major general last week.
