(Yicai Global) April 16 -- Stock markets on the Chinese mainland started today lower to continue yesterday afternoon's retreat.

The Shanghai Composite Index opened down 0.42 percent at 3,146.4 while the Shenzhen Component Index began at 9,993.25, down 0.6 percent. The ChiNext Price Index, which tracks growth enterprises in Shenzhen, started the day down 0.61 percent at 1,656.76.
