Chinese Mainland Stock Markets Close Morning Mixed

(Yicai Global) March 19 -- Stock markets on the Chinese mainland closed mixed this morning after the three major benchmarks soared yesterday.

The Shanghai Composite Index was down 0.22 percent at 3,089.5 going into lunch, after investors traded CNY227.6 billion (USD34 billion) worth of shares, while the Shenzhen Component Index closed at 9,832.98, down 0.11 percent with turnover of CNY268 billion. The ChiNext Price Index, which tracks growth enterprises in Shenzhen, hit the break 0.12 percent higher at 1,709.12 points, with CNY73 billion of shares changing hands.

Around half of all sectors gained and declined, with software and internet firms leading the way, up 1.69 percent and 1.5 percent. Ferrous metals, drinks and liquor and construction were among the biggest losers.

All three of the benchmarks gained at least 2.5 percent in yesterday's trading, with the Shenzhen Component Index surging as much as 3.07 percent.
