Chinese Mainland Markets Close Mixed After Smaller Firms Pick Up in Shenzhen

(Yicai Global) Dec. 20 -- Chinese mainland stock markets closed mixed today as blue chips continued to weigh down on Shanghai and small- and mid-caps revived the Shenzhen exchange.

The Shanghai Composite Index closed down 0.52 percent to 2,536.27, falling as much as 1.31 percent during the afternoon session as traders swapped CNY103.5 billion (USD15 billion) worth of shares.

The Shenzhen Composite Index edged up 0.1 percent to 7,426.44. It dipped as much as 1.31 percent throughout the day, with investors trading CNY127.7 billion worth of shares.

The ChiNext Price Index, which tracks growth enterprises in Shenzhen, ended up 0.74 percent at 1,278.16. It fell 0.15 percent during the afternoon, with a trading volume of CNY38.5 billion.
