(Yicai) Feb. 14 -- MiHoYo, the Chinese developer of the popular action role-playing game Genshin Impact, said it has started combating leaks by holding more than 200 people accountable for obtaining unreleased content via improper means and sharing confidential information.
Some of the individuals involved have been subjected to criminal enforcement measures by the police, miHoYo announced today. The highest compensation ordered for those held accountable was CNY550,000 (USD75,575), it added.
Game leaks disrupt player experience and operating rhythm and may negatively impact the game's reputation and image, leading to significant losses for the company, Shanghai-based miHoYo noted.
MiHoYo's latest actions included several first-of-its-kind cases in China, offering a guide for cracking down on leaks in the gaming industry. These include the first pre-litigation case regarding preserving trade secrets about unpublished game character designs and the first case where unreleased game characters and scenes were recognized as trade secrets through judgment.
