(Yicai) April 18 -- Chinese manufacturers are vying for buyers' attention at the 135th China Import and Export Fair, also known as the Canton Fair, with new technologies in fields such as robotics and home appliances.
Visitors to China's largest trade fair in Guangzhou can see the latest innovations of Chinese companies in action. The ongoing event will continue till May 5.
For example, visitors can see a bionic hand made by Hangzhou-based startup BrainCo. A worker was controlling the hand with a brain-computer interface, attracting a crowd of observers. The non-invasive prosthetic hand captures electric signals of arm muscles and nerves and then uses artificial intelligence to infer the user's intention to move, Yicai learned.
Founded in 2015, BrainCo has already sold its products in Europe and the United States. With the latest Canton Fair, it hopes to expand further overseas, Han Bicheng, founder and chief executive, said to Yicai.
Another company that attracted some eyeballs is Ecovacs Robotics. Several Indian buyers were curious about a multi-function sweeping robot with movable mechanical arms made by China's biggest seller of sweeping robots. The firm's sub-brand Tineco also lured not a few customers from Europe and the US with its carpet cleaner targeting overseas markets.
In the face of increasingly intense competition, Skyworth Group introduced more differentiated products at the fair, such as customizable refrigerators, security moniters with touch screens, and small washing machines for parents of newborns. Benefitting from innovation, Skyworth has grown its exports of white goods by double digits this year, Liu Tangzhi, vice chairman, pointed out to Yicai.
Home appliance vendors are bringing global influences to manufacturing. For example, Haier Smart Home exhibits a washer-dryer combo at the fair. The hardware was designed at research and development centers in regions such as Australia, Europe, and the US, but the product is made in China.
Chinese firms are integrating with global industry chains while stepping up innovation to create new demand despite uncertainties arising from trade protectionism, Zhou Nan, secretary general of the home appliance division of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products, said to Yicai.
