(Yicai Global) Nov. 1 -- DJI Technology has denied that the United States raised the patent infringement fine against the Chinese drone giant by 2,050 percent to USD6 billion.
The jury ruled in April that DJI should pay a fine of USD278.9 million, DJI told The Paper yesterday, adding that the final verdict is still pending.
US aerospace firm Textron filed a lawsuit against DJI for patent infringement to a federal court in Texas in 2021, claiming that DJI’s hover and follow functions infringed its automatic aircraft hover control technology and remote tracking control technology patents and asking for USD367 million in damages.
On April 21, a federal jury in Waco, Texas, supported Textron’s claim and ruled that DJI’s drones did infringe the two patents, therefore, the Chinese firm must pay USD279 million to its US peer.
DJI disagrees with the jury’s verdict, the company said at that time, adding that Textron applied for one of the patents in 2011, but DJI used the technology in its XP3.1 drone launched in 2009. DJI will consider appealing the verdict and believes the local court will deliver a fair decision, it noted.
