(Yicai) Nov. 30 -- Sales of Chinese automobile and motorcycle parts makers on overseas e-commerce platform eBay have soared in the past 12 months thanks to their strong manufacturing capabilities and improved e-commerce ecology systems, according to a recent market report.
Chinese merchants’ sales of car spoilers on the Italian branch of eBay nearly doubled in the year ended Oct. 31 from the previous one, while those of bumpers on the French branch of eBay skyrocketed 900 percent, according to the results of a report released yesterday at the ongoing Automechanika Shanghai 2023.
Chinese sellers of brake discs and electronic control units on the US branch of eBay saw their sales more than double in the period, the report also showed. Meanwhile, sales of parts for automatic gearboxes sold by Chinese firms on Australia’s eBay surged over 60 percent.
Chinese auto and motorbike parts have an advantage in terms of high cost-performance considering the trend of global sales moving online, said Pang Tao, general manager of sales and category management at eBay China. Moreover, the auto parts sector does not seem to have weakened, and there is no sign of slowed demand or sales of auto parts online, Pang noted.
Autool maintained a sales growth rate of around 20 percent during the Covid-19 pandemic and of about 30 percent so far this year, Zhang Junfang, head of the overseas business division of the Shenzhen-based developer and producer of auto parts and relevant tools, told Yicai.
Cross-border e-commerce has become an important boost for its growth, Zhang added, noting that the company’s sales on eBay have jumped six-fold to almost USD10 million since 2018.
The results of the report also showed that the aftermarket of new energy vehicles generated new opportunities for Chinese parts makers. The European market’s demand for charging piles has surged, especially that for 11-kilowatt wall-mounted charging piles.
However, Chinese sellers should pay more attention to products’ compliance with regulations, such as the US Department of Transportation and Europe’s e-Mark certifications, to develop more healthily.
