China’s Xpeng Breaks Ground on World's First Flying Car Factory China’s Xpeng Breaks Ground on World's First Flying Car Factory

(Yicai) Oct. 28 -- Chinese electric car startup Xpeng Motors started construction on its roadable aircraft plant in southern city of Guangzhou province yesterday. Once completed, it will be the first flying car factory in the world with modern assembly lines.

The plant, located in the Guangzhou Development Zone, will produce 10,000 roadable aircraft a year, Guangzhou Daily reported. The factory will manufacture the flying parts of the vehicle and will be up and running by the first quarter of 2026.

The core components of the flying car will be produced at the base, Zhao Deli, founder of Xpeng Aeroht, a subsidiary of Xpeng's roadable aircraft business, said at the groundbreaking ceremony. The factory will establish a precise manufacturing traceability system along the whole production chain so that each part has its own ‘ID.’

Xpeng Aeroht launched the Land Aircraft Carrier, which can switch seamlessly from driving on land to flying in the sky, last month. The Land Aircraft Carrier completed its first manned test flight earlier this month and should make its public manned flight debut at the Airshow China in Zhuhai next month.

Costing CNY2 million (USD280,500), pre-sales will start at the end of the year. The first batch of products will be used in scenarios such as flight camps in the wild.

Xpeng Aeroht became part of the ecosystem of Xpeng in 2020 after it received investment from the Guangzhou-based company and Xpeng Chairman He Xiaopeng.
