(Yicai) Nov. 12 -- Chinese e-commerce giants JD.Com and Tmall reported significant sales growth for select brands as the Double 11 shopping festival, a weeks-long event, culminated last night.
JD.Com saw its number of shoppers increase by more than 20 percent year-on-year during this year's Double 11, while order volumes from livestreaming rooms surged nearly fourfold, the Beijing-based company announced today. The turnover for more than 17,000 brands rose more than fivefold, and over 30,000 small and medium-sized businesses saw their sales double.
JD.Com's digital human technology supported over 7,500 brands in boosting their sales through livestreaming, achieving a 40 percent increase in turnover compared with the "618" shopping festival in June.
The tech giant is also expanding its reach internationally. Ochama, JD.Com's European retail brand, saw growth in sales of snacks and beverages, fresh food, and home appliances, with small China-made household appliance sales tripling. The mobile application offers home delivery services, including same-day delivery, across 24 European countries.
JD.Com, known for its extensive logistics network, stated that this year consumers in nearly 80 countries worldwide can receive parcels from China through JD Express.
Meanwhile, Alibaba Group Holding's Tmall revealed that as of last night, nearly 590 brands’ Double 11 turnover surpassed CNY100 million (USD14 million), an increase of 47 percent from the previous year, marking a new record.
Nearly 80 beauty brands on Tmall achieved gross merchandise volumes of over CNY100 million during the shopping festival, according to the Hangzhou-based parent company. Sales for more than 9,600 home appliance and furniture brands doubled, and 139 such brands reached over CNY100 million in sales. Leading electronics brands such as Apple and Huawei, along with 32 other device sellers, each generated over CNY100 million in sales, while more than 1,100 tech brands saw their GMVs double.
Additionally, Tmall hosted nearly 120 livestreaming rooms with transactions exceeding CNY100 million, setting a new record, with 49 of these rooms recording growth rates above 100 percent.
