(Yicai) July 23 -- ByteDance's Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, has started a campaign to remove fake profiles and content.
The platform will block personal accounts made with fake IDs, pull videos and ban new followers, the Beijing-based company announced yesterday.
ByteDance discovered recently that owners of individual self-media accounts claimed to be experts or executives from famous firms to earn users' trust, guiding them to visit third-party platforms for monetization. Some said they were directors, business owners, or chairpersons without proof. Others claimed they have doubled over 300 enterprises' revenues, coached Fortune 500 companies, or cultivated 3,000 firms.
