(Yicai) June 27 -- Several Chinese battery manufacturers, including Sunwoda Electronic, Rept Battero, and Cornex New Energy, recently launched 625 ampere-hour energy cells, more than twice the industry standard.
The three companies recently showcased their 625 Ah cells used in energy storage at the SNEC International Photovoltaic Power Generation and Smart Energy Exhibition & Conference in Shanghai and the Smarter E held in Munich, Germany.
The capacity of energy storage battery cells is rapidly increasing, with a notable shift towards cells with capacities exceeding 300 Ah and even 500 Ah.
Cells with a capacity of 314 Ah are predicted to become the mainstream in the next few years, replacing their 280 Ah counterparts, a manager at an energy storage firm told Yicai. And by late 2024 or next year at the latest, manufacturers will likely start to gradually mass-produce cells with a capacity of more than 500 Ah, according to publicly available information.
The speed of development is accelerating. It took about five years to advance to the mass production of 314 Ah cells from 280 Ah, whereas the gap was only about a year between 500-plus Ah cells and 300-plus Ah products.
Chinese firms such as Contemporary Amperex Technology, Eve Energy, and Gotion High-Tech, have begun making and delivering dozens of cell types with a capacity higher than 300 Ah, Yicai learned.
The penetration rate of 300 Ah-plus cells could climb to over 20 percent this year or even 30 percent, if the conditions are right, up from last year's less than 3 percent, according to a study by the Gaogong Industry Institute.
