(Yicai) Dec. 3 -- Shares of Changzhou NRB and China Leadshine Technology surged after the two Chinese firms unveiled separate plans on the same day to build two plants to make core parts for humanoid robots.
NRB [SHE: 002708] soared by the 10 percent exchange-imposed daily trading limit to CNY10.54 (USD1.45) in Shenzhen today. Leadshine [SHE: 002979] closed 4.7 percent up at CNY31.75, after earlier gaining as much as 10 percent.
NRB plans to invest CNY1 billion (USD137.2 million) to build a precision transmission parts factory in Huangshan, Anhui province, the mechanical transmission parts supplier announced yesterday. The project is expected to be built in two phases across five years.
Once completed, the plant will have an annual output of 60 million precision transmission sets for humanoid robots or high-end new energy vehicles and annual sales of about CNY1.6 billion, Changzhou-based NRB noted.
NRB counts automakers and part suppliers, such as Volkswagen, Scania, Daimer, and Magna International, as its main clients. Robot parts is a new business for the company.
According to information disclosed by an executive to investors in August last year, NRB’s industrial robot business mainly consists of providing parts to one leading customer and was experiencing capacity ramp up period at the time.
Yesterday, Leadshine also announced a humanoid robot project. According to the press release, the motor drive system parts supplier plans to invest CNY500 million (USD68.6 million) to build a base for research, development, and smart manufacturing of humanoid robot core parts at its headquarters in southern China’s Dongguan. The construction is expected to last 30 months.
The project will help increase the level of the company’s humanoid robot business, enhance the market competitiveness of its products, and optimize its business presence in southern China, Leadshine noted, without revealing any further details.
Leadshine provides smart equipment producers with motion control core parts. Humanoid robot parts is a key business development direction the firm started developing in recent years, with its main products including servo control core parts and solutions, according to its latest annual report.
