(Yicai) May 22 -- Jinggong Steel Building Group has won the bid to build the steel structure of one soccer stadium for the 2027 Association Football Club Asian Cup for USD117 million.

Jinggong received a notice informing the company that it had won the bid for the construction of the steel structure of the Dammam Stadium in Dammam in eastern Saudi Arabia, the Shaoxing, Zhejiang province-based firm announced yesterday. Jinggong has not yet signed the official contract.

The Dammam Stadium will become a landmark sports facility in Saudi Arabia. Soccer games from the Saudi Football Professional League and the International Federation of Association Football will be held at the stadium after the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.

The project is expected to help Jinggong enhance its brand influence in the comprehensive large-scale sports stadium project construction market, the company noted.

Jinggong has already accumulated rich experience in building sports venues. The company co-built the Beijing National Station, also known as Bird’s Nest, for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the Lusail Stadium and the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium in Qatar for the 2022 World Cup, and the Canterbury Multi-Use Arena in New Zealand.

The Dammam Stadium project is not the only project Jinggong has secured in Saudi Arabia. The firm also took part in the construction of the country’s Kingdom Tower, King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah, and a high-speed rail station in Mecca.

Jinggong’s shares [SHA: 600496] were trading up 2.1 percent at CNY2.93 (41 US cents) as of 1.40 p.m. in Shanghai today.
