(Yicai) Oct. 8 -- The average daily inbound and outbound travel bookings in China during the National Day holiday, also known as Golden Week, have reached a new record high this year, according to Trip.Com.

International tourism surged during the seven-day holiday ended yesterday thanks to the resumption of flights, increased hotel supplies, and lower prices, the Shanghai-based online travel agency announced yesterday, without revealing the exact figures.

Outbound tourism orders jumped 50 percent during the National Day holiday from a year earlier, according to Alibaba Group Holding-backed online travel agency Fliggy. Overseas hotel bookings exceeded the level in the same period in 2019 by 20 percent, with closer destinations like Japan, Malaysia, South Korea, and Thailand among the most popular.

According to Trip.Com, the top 10 destinations for Chinese tourists going abroad during the Golden Week were Japan, Thailand, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Australia. In terms of tourism order growth, Brazil was the leading country, followed by the Philippines, Mexico, the UK, and the United Arab Emirates.

Inbound tourism also increased significantly during the National Day holiday. The average daily number of inbound tourists soared almost 80 percent from a year earlier, with more than half of the people staying in China over seven days, Trip.Com data also showed. The figure for visitors from countries such as Italy, Malaysia, Russia, and the US skyrocketed more than four-fold.

Some 765 million domestic trips were made in China during the Golden Week, up 5.9 percent from a year earlier and 10 percent from the same period in 2019, according to data released today by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. Tourism spending rose 6.3 percent and 7.9 percent, respectively, to CNY700.8 billion (USD99.3 billion).

The city's tourism consumption totaled CNY92.4 billion (USD13.1 billion) in the seven days, up 4.2 percent from the same period last year.
