(Yicai) Feb. 22 -- Harbin Electric International, a Chinese power station builder, is joining hands with a local company to construct what is expected to become Türkiye's biggest power station facility to accelerate the Middle Eastern country's journey toward carbon neutrality.
HEI and Türkiye's Progresiva Energy signed an agreement to establish the first gigawatt-level energy storage project in the country that straddles both Europe and Asia, which also marks the biggest new energy project built by a Chinese enterprise in Türkiye, People’s Daily Online reported yesterday. The chosen location is in the Tekirdag province, located about 120 kilometers west of Istanbul.
The undertaking is in the pre-financing stage and construction is scheduled to begin in January 2025. The project is slated to be put into operation in 2027. The facility should mainly store wind power to meet local residents' demand while helping the country achieve its carbon neutrality goal by 2053.
The agreement is of great significance, marking the continuous improvement and expansion of new energy cooperation between China and Türkiye, said Liu Shaobin, Chinese ambassador to the country. China has cooperated with more than 100 countries and regions in energy projects, playing an active role in sustainable energy development while maintaining global energy security and stability, Liu added.
Founded in 1983, HEI constructs thermal power stations, hydropower stations, and combined cycle power plants for clients and provides after-sales services.
