(Yicai) June 3 -- BYD, the world's biggest producer of electric vehicles, is expanding its footprint by opening a store in Port of Spain, the capital of Trinidad and Tobago, marking the Chinese firm's first sales outlet in the Caribbean.
The EV brand displayed models including ATTO 3, Seal, Dolphin, and E6 at the opening ceremony, the Shenzhen-based firm announced on WeChat over the weekend.
A year ago, the EV giant said it would join hands with ATL Automotive Group to open BYD showrooms, making the Jamaican auto dealer in charge of distribution across 10 Caribbean countries, including Jamaica, Barbados, and the Cayman Islands.
BYD sold 1.3 million vehicles in the first five months of this year, up 27 percent from a year ago, and overseas sales reached 176,000 units, according to the latest data.
