(Yicai Global) Sept. 2 -- As local Covid-19 cases ease, northwest China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region has opened all outdoor tourist attractions and resumed inter-provincial tourism, Xinjiang Daily reported today.
Following the news, shares of Xinjiang travel agency Western Regions Tourism Development [SHE: 300859], which went public on Aug. 6, soared more than 13 percent this afternoon before closing 5.6 percent higher at CNY37.17 (USD5.45).
Xinjiang is China’s biggest province and is replete with visitor hotspots, including he Kunlun and Tianshan mountains. Its off-season is generally from the beginning of November to the end of April due to long winters.
Most scenic spots have been closed since July due to several confirmed Covid-19 cases in Urumqi, the provincial capital.
Urumqi Airlines resumed flights to and from Lanzhou, Haikou, and Zhengzhou yesterday and will gradually reopen services to Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Changsha, Xiamen and Tianjin. Flight volumes have returned to 60 percent of the same period last year.
Xinjiang had 804 cured and discharged Covid-19 cases and 229 asymptomatic infections released from medical observation as of yesterday, totaling 1,033 cases, according to the local government.
