The government will soon release AI project guidelines and detailed policy documents to steer technological breakthroughs in the key parts of the basic frontier theories Wan said.

China must advance the system integration development of the new generation of key AI technologies and channel the relevant results into an open platform as soon as possible to enhance and improve them again in open access, he said. The country must also further study policies and regulations and actively respond to the possible challenges AI development poses to social ethics, the employment structure, personal privacy, and national security, Wan said.

The country has included AI research in its national science and technology plan since the 1980s. Thanks to long-term efforts and development of informatization, digitization, and software and hardware technologies, China is increasingly applying AI technologies to facilitate our economic and social development, Wan added.
