China Unveils First Domestically-Developed Smart Vessel China Unveils First Domestically-Developed Smart Vessel

(Yicai Global) Dec. 6 -- China State Shipbuilding Corp. (CSSC) debuted the country's first domestically-developed smart ship at the China Maritime Conference & Exhibition held yesterday.

The 179-meter-long vessel, capable of autonomously optimizing routes and real-time monitoring equipment, is the first smart ship to receive official approvals from both the China Classification Society and Lloyd's Register of Shipping.

The bulk carrier will transport up to 38,800 tons of coal and salt between China, Australia and Southeast Asia, Xinhua News Agency reported. It is able to improve propulsion efficiency by 3 percent and cut daily oil consumption by 4 percent, compared to a conventional ship of the same size.

It features an intelligent integrated platform and information network system able to analyze external and internal data during navigation to provide support for route improvements and to and detect hidden dangers in advance, an official from the state-owned shipbuilder said.

Lloyd's Register of Shipping is the oldest classification society in the world with almost 300 years of history, and is an internationally recognized authority in the shipping industry.
