(Yicai Global) Nov. 19 -- China cut its highest amount of US treasury bonds since January last month but remains the largest foreign buyer of the country's government debt, according to the latest US data.

China reduced its holding of US treasuries by USD1.4 billion to USD1.2 trillion last month meaning its holding hit the lowest level since June last year. China ranked third among the country's foreign debtors in terms of September sales, following Ireland and France, the US treasury department said in a report issued on Nov. 16.

Japan's holding of US debt hit a seven year-trough at USD1 trillion with USD1.9 billion cut last month.

Foreign holdings of US treasuries totaled USD6.2 trillion as of the end of September, down USD63.3 billion on the month.
