(Yicai Global) Dec.29 -- As China mulls greater efforts in fifth-generation wireless communications network construction next year, the 5G stock index of leading Chinese financial data provider Wind Information rose 4.45 percent this morning as the share prices of 85 5G-related companies climbed, while only four of 91 dropped.

The 5G coverage in major cities will accelerate and more than 600,000 5G base stations will be built next year, as against the 580,000 that went up this year, Xiao Yaqing, minister of Industry and Information Technology, said yesterday.

The 5G technology will come to bear in 20 typical industrial application scenarios, Xiao said, adding 5G private network pilot projects will also run, but without specifying their number.

5G construction and application companies took heart from this statement. Communications equipment provider ZTE [SHE:000063] climbed 10 percent to halt trading at CNY33.63 and Internet of Things equipment supplier Queclink Wireless Solutions [SHE:300590] soared 20 percent to stop at CNY29.21 (USD4.45), per the higher daily price ceiling on the Shanghai Stock Exchange’s Nasdaq-style Star Market.
