(Yicai Global) Aug. 1 -- Tianma Microelectronics, a major Chinese display maker, will construct a CNY1.5 billion (USD217.4 million) research and development unit in Central China's Wuhan.
The new project helps Tianma to develop new products amid a key period for innovation in the field of small and mid-sized displays, the Shenzhen-based firm said in a statement yesterday, without disclosing the type of screens.
Founded in 1983, Tianma has multiple production bases across China as well as in Japan. Its Wuhan plant started delivering a new generation of low-temperature polycrystalline silicon screens, a type of faster liquid-crystal displays, last June. The firm has marketing and technical centers in the US, Germany, Japan and South Korea.
