China Tencent's WeChat, Japan's Line Entwine in Mobile Payments

(Yicai Global) Nov. 27 -- Shenzhen-based Chinese tech titan Tencent Holdings and Tokyo-headquartered messaging and third-party payment app Line will team up to ease mobile payments in Japan.

The two announced this at a press conference in the Tokyo today, China Securities Journal reported.

The collaboration is seen as a move to improve the tourist experience in Japan.

Line will lease terminals able to support both Tencent's WeChat Pay and its own counterpart LINE Pay systems to make it convenient for locals and Chinese travelers to benefit from mobile payment services in the country.
