(Yicai Global) Dec. 2 -- China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has told 18 companies, including renowned phonemaker Xiaomi Technologies, to do a better job of preventing spam.

The issue is a serious nuisance to civilians, the ministry said.

Leading phone retailer Beijing Digital Telecom, email service provider Xiamen 35.Com Technology and online game developer Suzhou Snail Digital Technology are among the firms who need to fix up.
