(Yicai Global) June 9 -- An inactivated Covid-19 vaccine developed by the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences has been greenlit for emergency use in China, making it the country’s sixth novel coronavirus vaccine to be given conditional approval, the Science and Technology Daily reported today.
The first batch of products is already on the market, the report said. The newly built production facilities built by CAMS’ Institute of Medical Biology have started operating and should reach a maximum annual output of one billion doses by year end.
Inoculation requires two shots at an interval of two to four weeks. The target group is adults aged 18 and above.
Of the five other vaccines that have been approved for emergency use before this, three are inactivated jabs, made by China National Biotec Group, the Institute of Biological Products and Sinovac Biotech. Another is an adenovirus vector vaccine developed by CanSino Biologics and the other is a recombinant vaccine produced by Anhui Zhifei Longcom Biopharmaceutical.
