(Yicai Global) Dec. 27 -- China has ramped up non-fossil fuel production amid a government campaign to curb pollution and promote clean energy.

The country's energy production is expected to reach 3.6 billion tons of standard coal equivalent this year, with non-fossil fuel output accounting for 17.6 percent, 6.4 percentage points higher than in 2012, state-run Xinhua News Agency reported yesterday, citing information from a national work conference on energy.

China's installed power generation capacity is set to reach 1.77 billion kilowatts by the year's end with non-fossil fuel generation capacity accounting for 38.1 percent of the total, marking a 9.6 percentage point increase since 2012 -- the fastest growth rate in the country's history.

China has been working to cap coal power capacity since the 18th National People's Congress. The government has slashed coal production by more than 500 million tons over the last couple years, effectively reducing overcapacity in the sector, and has phased in 'advanced production capacity,' improving supply efficiency.

"China is actively adapting to the green trend in energy supply," Nur Bekri, head of the National Energy Administration said, adding that the country has become a global leader in the development of non-fossil fuel.

The installed capacity of new coal power plants decreased by 4 million kilowatts compared with last year, and investment in coal power facility construction fell 25 percent.
