(Yicai Global) Jun 5 -- China Railway is to increase the number of online food ordering and specialty reservation and distribution stations from today to provide more convenience for its passengers.

China's national railway operator will gradually add 11 more stations to its list of online food ordering and specialty reservation and distribution points, with some stations in Shenyang, capital of the northeastern Liaoning province, Tianjin, Nanjing, capital of East China's Jiangsu province, Qingdao in the eastern Shandong province, and Urumqi, capital of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, selected as new service points.

The move increases the number of such stations to 38 from the current 27, it said, according to online news outlet The Paper. China Railway has selected the new online food ordering and pick-up points at those stations due to the high number of bullet trains serving to them as major transport hubs and the high density of passengers, it added. It aims to further cater to the needs of travelers for online railway food ordering and pick-up.

China Railway launched its online food ordering service in July last year. It allows travelers to use the company's official app to order takeout food including from other outlets such as KFC and McDonald's and have them delivered to their seats on the train. The current 27 pilot stations are located in busy transport hubs including Shanghai, Guangzhou, capital of the southeastern Guangdong province, and Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province.

In January, China Railway further improved the service, reducing the online order time to one hour from two hours in advance and also launched the online local specialty reservation service, which passengers reportedly highly welcomed.
