China Railway Sets 2018 Targets to Build World's Most Sophisticated Railroad Network China Railway Sets 2018 Targets to Build World's Most Sophisticated Railroad Network

(Yicai Global) Jan. 2 -- China's target of national railway fixed assets investment in 2018 is lower than last year's CNY800 billion (USD123.2 Bln). However, China Railway Corporation will strive to expand high speed railway network to more than 80 percent of the country's major cities by 2020.

China Railway Corporation, better known as CR, announced its new year targets in a press briefing Beijing yesterday. Among its main objectives for 2018 are no major accidents in railways with improved safety, carrying an estimated 3.25 billion passengers and cargo transportation volume of 3.02 billion tons, a national railway fixed assets investment of up to CNY732 billion, of which national railways account for CNY702 billion, and laying 4,000 kilometers of new tracks, with high speed railways accounting for 3,500 kilometers.

By 2020, the national railways mileage will reach about 150,000 kilometers, basically covering all the cities with a population of over 200,000, of which the high-speed railways will make up about 30,000 kilometers, or more than 80 percent of major cities.

By 2035, China would take the lead to establish the most sophisticated and comprehensive modern railway network in the world, said Lu Dongfu, general manager of China's national railway operator, at the press briefing.
