(Yicai Global) Oct. 29 -- China Railway Express has run over 10,000 freight train trips to Europe since the establishment of those routes in 2013.
China Railway Express has done 11,000 cargo trips to Europe in its 65 routes, online news outlet Chinanews reported yesterday Han Xiao, deputy director of management and legal affairs bureau at China Railway Group, as saying. Han was speaking at the Conference of International Railway Transport Law in Beijing on Oct. 27.
The cross-continent logistics firm has developed its connections along with President Xi Jinping's Belt and Road initiative, which aims to unite the former Silk Road countries with more cooperation and trade.
The Beijing-based firm's main routes include Chongqing to Duisburg, Zhengzhou to Hamburg, Suzhou to Warsaw, Yiwu to Madrid, Shenyang to Hamburg, Changsha to Hamburg, Daqing to Zeebrugge, Xiamen to Moscow, Nanjing to Moscow, and Tianjin to Minsk.
Goods that are transported include mobile phones, computers, clothing, auto parts, and cosmetics. Products that come to China are mechanical equipment, food, liquors, electronics, clothing, hardware products, wood and auto parts.
The Europe link boasts the advantages of large volume, low freight rate and fast speed, Han said, adding that the option takes only one-third of sea transportation's time and one-fifth of the cost of air freight.
The China-Europe Express has also promoted the economic development of countries along the routes, Han said. These cities have developed processing plants, industrial parks and related businesses, which has improved local economies, he added.
