China Probes GM Joint Venture Over Suspected Monopolistic Practices

(Yicai Global) Dec. 15 -- SAIC General Motors Corp. (SAIC-GM) is reportedly under investigation by the National Development and Reform Commission, China's top pricing watchdog, due to suspected violations of the anti-monopoly law.

The investigation concerns Shanghai-based SAIC-GM's pricing strategy and does not necessarily mean the firm will be fined, Sina Finance said in a report yesterday, citing an informed source. China Daily previously said the government was about to impose a fine on an American automaker for monopolistic practices.

SAIC-GM was jointly founded by SAIC Motor Corp. [SHA:600104] and General Motors Corp. [NYSE:GM] in 1997, according to its website.
