(Yicai Global) July 9 -- Oppo takes issue with “any unreasonable negotiations using litigation as a tool,” the Chinese smartphone maker told Yicai Global after Finnish telecoms giant Nokia launched patent infringement lawsuits across Europe and Asia.
Oppo will actively respond to the lawsuits and give full play to its experience and advantages in the intellectual property field to reach an agreement with Nokia on reasonable patent license fees, the Dongguan-based handset maker said today.
The Finnish telecoms giant has filed suits against Oppo for patent infringement in the United Kingdom, France, and India. The two companies signed a global fourth-generation patent cross-licensing deal in November 2018, Sina’s news portal reported yesterday.
Nokia charges each fifth-generation network-based smartphone using its patents EUR3 (USD3.55), per the firm’s 5G patent charging standards released in 2018. But the fees are too high for smartphone makers.
Nokia has given patent licenses to phone makers Samsung, LG, HTC, Apple, and BlackBerry, according to public data.
