(Yicai Global) Dec. 14 -- China’s new energy vehicle sales jumped 1.2-fold last month from the same period last year and production was up 1.3 times to both log record highs as the country's electric car market shifts from being policy-driven to market-driven.

Some 450,000 zero-emission autos were sold in November and 457,000 units produced, according to the latest statistics from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers. This was a 17.3 percent and 15.1 percent respective increase from the month before.

Electric cars accounted for 17.8 percent of all auto sales last month, higher than October’s 12.1 percent, the report said.

In the 11 months ended Nov. 30, China’s NEV sales rose 1.7 times to 2.99 million units.

Sales and production of all vehicles slumped 9.1 percent and 9.3 percent last month year on year to 2.52 million and 2.59 million units, CAAM said. This is despite a month-on-month increase of 9.1 percent in sales and 10.9 percent in output.

From January to November, some 23.5 million vehicles were sold and 23.2 million made, a gain of 4.5 percent and 3.5 percent from a year ago.

Exports were up 59.1 percent in November to 200,000 vehicles from a year earlier, but fell 13.6 percent from October, the report said. In the first 11 months, exports gained 1.1-fold year on year to 1.8 million units.
