(Yicai Global) Nov. 29 -- China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) has successfully supplied heating to some office buildings with an area of about 10,000 square meters for 168 hours through a heating reactor. The demonstration was part of a project, pool light-water reactor (49-2 reactor), developed by CNNC's China Institute of Atomic Energy.
It marks a significant progress in China's independent research and development in the field of nuclear heating technology, offering a new option for the country to use clean energy for heating.
China National Nuclear Corporation used "Yanlong" and "DHR-400" as the model and codename of the pool type low temperature heating reactor, which it officially put on a public demonstration yesterday. "DHR-400" refers to the 'district heating reactor,' with 400 megawatt (MW) thermal power.
According to estimates, a 400 MW "Yanlong" low temperature heating reactor is able to heat up an area of 20 million square meters, equivalent to 200,000 apartments with 3 bedrooms. It is the world's largest heating reactor under research currently.
Compared with coal-fired heating, the heating reactor can reduce soot emissions by 3,200 tons a year and cut ash residue by 100,000 tons.
