(Yicai Global) Oct. 12 -- China National GeneBank will cooperate with CQ University Australia to research koala bear genomics to provide scientific instruction for the protection of the animal.

The parties signed the relevant cooperation agreement in Australia yesterday. The project will mark the first time that Australia jointly conducts koala bear genomics research with an overseas institution.

Under the agreement, CQ University Australia will provide koala bear samples from different climate conditions, and China National GeneBank will be responsible for sequencing them and analyzing biological information.

This scheme will research the evolutionary history of the koala as well as the effects that global climate changes have on the growth distribution and genetic polymorphism koala bears.

China National GeneBank will also conduct research on biodiversity and endangered species protection covering animals, plants, marine organisms, paleontology and human health.
