(Yicai Global) Sept. 14 -- The National Copyright Administration of China (NCAC) summoned heads of 20 Chinese and foreign music companies and relevant associations including the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) that represents the interests of the recording industry worldwide, asking those companies that hold music copyrights to avoid granting music service companies exclusive copyrights.

Prior to this meeting, the NCAC also summoned China's main online music service providers. According to a new report published on the website of the Administration, more than 20 music companies attended the meeting, including Universal Music Group, Inc., Warner Music Group Corp., Sony Music Holdings, Emperor Entertainment Group, China Record Corporation and Chia Tai Ice Music Production.

A senior NCAC official from the copyright management division asked music companies to comply with laws, regulations and international treaties, adopt an authorization model in line with market rules and international practices and avoid offering exclusive copyright to online music service providers.

The NCAC also asked music companies not to permit, indulge and provoke online music service providers from driving up copyright prices and pursuing vicious competition.
