(Yicai Global) Oct. 24 -- Revenue from iOS apps in China hit a record high in the third quarter of this year, making China the largest market for the iPhone and iPad's App Store, according to a recent report from market research company App Annie.
Revenue in China reached USD1.7 billion in the nine months through September, while sales in the US were USD1.5 billion. The US had been the No. 1 market since 2010.
Apart from games, the most popular apps in the Chinese iOS App Store include those for entertainment, social media, books, photo and videos. App revenue growth rose sharply across the board. In the case of entertainment apps, sales jumped 3.5 times. The gain was three-fold for all other popular categories.
App Annie predicts that iOS app revenue will continue to grow and the Chinese market will "contribute the largest absolute revenue growth for App Store" in 2020.
