(Yicai Global) Feb. 27 — China Mobile Communications Corp., one of the country's big three state-owned telecoms carriers, plans to create the world's largest experimental 5G network this year by building over 100 base stations in each of several major Chinese cities.
The Beijing-based firm will test its 5G technology in Shanghai, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Suzhou and Wuhan, NetEase Tech reported, quoting a company announcement at the Mobile World Congress of 2018 held in Barcelona yesterday. It will also conduct 5G demonstrations in 12 cities, including Beijing, Chengdu and Shenzhen.
US-based network tester Viavi Solutions Inc., one of the firm's partners, revealed earlier this month that the telecoms giant plans to roll out 5G services in 2019, a year earlier than initially planned.
The company also unveiled its latest developments at the event, such as its first 3G-based standard that enables end-to-end interconnection between the world's largest base station, terminal chips and test instruments.
