(Yicai Global) Feb. 14 -- Major telecoms operator China Mobile Communications Corp., has teamed up with U.S. network testing firm Viavi Solutions Inc., as part of efforts to bring forward the roll-out of commercial 5G services to next year, twelve months ahead of schedule.
The Beijing-based carrier has inked a deal in which Viavi will provide testing platforms to help establish 5G network infrastructure ahead of the planned launch, the company said in a statement.
"Viavi has been honored to collaborate with China Mobile on analyzing 5G network scenarios and proposing technology strategy," said Oleg Khaykin, chief executive at San Jose-based Viavi. "In order to realize China Mobile's vision of introducing 5G service by the end of 2019, principal technologies including SPN for transport must be standardized by the ITU-T. We have advanced our test technology to meet this objective, and our solutions are ready to support the China Mobile ecosystem of partners to deliver interoperable network infrastructure," he added.
China Mobile had been expected to introduce 5G services on a commercial level in 2020 following a previous statement from Chairman Shang Bing.
Viavi will deliver a testing package based on a Slicing Packet Network (SPN) to support next-generation architecture, bandwidth, traffic model, network slicing, latency and time synchronization. The solution will assist chip makers, transceiver suppliers and equipment manufacturers to meet 5G standards.
