The Washington University was once rated as the fifth best university in innovation in the world, said a statement from China Mobile Multimedia today. It has established many R & D centers in cooperation with Microsoft Corporation [NASDAQ:MSFT] and other tech enterprises.

The center to be set up will be mainly committed to research and development of cutting-edge technologies such as satellite network, multimedia, Internet of Vehicles and artificial intelligence (AI), and will strive to become a leading organization for the integration and development of the above-mentioned sectors.

Mainly engaged in offering car-mounted multimedia service via the satellite network, the company requires technologies in multiple sectors and disciplines. The research and development center to be established will utilize professional knowledge and scientific research ability of the University of Washington to design first-class satellite network system and develop groundbreaking products by combining technologies from different fields, the Chinese firm said.

These cutting-edge technologies can be turned into commercial products and can be released into the market rapidly by virtue of the enormous satellite transmission facility of the company as well as the large-scale low-cost multimedia information supply chain in China, it added.
