(Yicai Global) Oct. 17 -- Three major Chinese telecommunication equipment companies, Huawei Technologies Co., ZTE Corporation [SHE:000063; HK:0763] and Fiberhome Telecommunication Technologies Co. [SHA:600498], have successfully completed the first-phase field tests of the fifth-generation (5G) telecommunication technology -- dubbed Slicing Packet Network (SPN) -- in a lab at China Mobile Research Institute, the research division of China Mobile Communications Corp. [HK:0941], Cnstock.com reported today.
They were the first 5G data transmission tests ever conducted in the world.
SPN is a new transmission network technology. It represents technological innovations on the physical, link and forwarding control layers in 5G data transmission that satisfy future 5G transmission network requirements, Cn-comm.com reported.
The tests demonstrated key Slicing Ethnernet features of SPN systems developed by the manufacturers, and achieved inter-system connectivity by successfully tackling encapsulation-related issues between different manufacturers. Furthermore, the tests exceeded expectations and produced an ultra-low latency solution, a mandatory requirement for 5G development.
Successful completion of the tests means that the 5G technology is no longer merely a research topic, but has entered the actual implementation stage, and that China Mobile is at the forefront of 5G technology deployment.
