China's Milk Tea, Flour, Hot Pot Orders Rebound After Holidays China's Milk Tea, Flour, Hot Pot Orders Rebound After Holidays

(Yicai Global) Feb. 25 -- Takeaway food and beverage orders in China have surged in the past week after many companies have called their workers to return to their offices, according to data from Alibaba Group Holdings's Taobao and Ele.me.

Orders of milk tea, a popular sweet drink in China, doubled over the past week from the week before, the Hangzhou-based firm's e-commerce platform Taobao said in a report released today. In the eastern city, such orders climbed even eightfold.

Flour sales jumped by seven times as people had been learning new recipes when stuck at home during the prolonged holidays amid the Covid-19 outbreak. Consumers had bought massive amounts of condiments and sauces to cook at home while Coca Cola chicken wings and fried eggs had become the most looked up recipes.

The preferred foods to order home last week were instant noodles, self-heating hot pots, and bread while burger meals, milk tea, Luosifen noodles, fried chicken, and barbecue skewers regained popularity.

Sales of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region's traditional Luosifen dish climbed by 58 percent, while most of these orders were delivered to office buildings, the report added.
