China-Made Exports Sold Through eBay's Cross-Border Platform Soar, Drone Sales Surge 1,500% China-Made Exports Sold Through eBay's Cross-Border Platform Soar, Drone Sales Surge 1,500%

(Yicai Global) Oct. 13 -- China-made consumer electronics exported via eBay Inc.'s [NASDAQ:EBAY] cross-border e-commerce platform are becoming more high-end and profitable products, according to a report published by eBay focusing on Chinese exports.

Sales of smart household goods, drones, 3D-printing products, virtual reality products and smart wearables exported via eBay's China site grew at the fastest pace among electronic goods in the first half of the year, and were the five best-selling items behind smartphones, the report said.

China is leading the world in unmanned aerial vehicles, also known as UAVs or drones. Its prominence comes from industry focus, first-mover advantage and rapid innovation. The US is the biggest and fastest-growing market for China-made drones, with Chinese sellers seeing a 1,500-percent rise in US sales and an average rise of 900 percent in Europe.

Among smart household goods, cameras, lighting, security devices, humidifiers, temperature control equipment, central control systems and remote control devices were the best-selling Chinese products, the report added.

Sales of 3D-printing products more than doubled from a year ago at Chinese retailers, with demand rising 450 percent a year in the French, Italian and Spanish markets. Demand was strong from Germany, an industrial manufacturing powerhouse, which has become the second-largest market for Chinese sellers, behind the US, and grew at over 100 percent on the year.

Chinese exporters also saw an annual increase of more than 300 percent in sales of VR devices, such as panoramic cameras and headsets. Annual sales growth exceeded 350 percent in the US, their largest market, ahead of Canada and Australia.

Smart wearables, including watches, glasses, headphones and sports wristbands, also proved a hit. Sales grew more than 100 percent from a year ago, the eBay report said. The US, UK and Germany were the top three markets for smart wearables. Demand grew more than 150 percent on the year in France, Italy and Spain, which have become some of the more promising export markets for wearables.
